In June 2022 Marco Island Yacht Club was nominated as one of the Naples Daily News 2022 Best of the Best Awards. These awards celebrate and recognize the best our community has to offer. We are thrilled to let you know that we won! We were voted Best Yacht Club in the Naples Area! All members are invited to celebrate this award and recognize our staff. A representative from Naples Daily News will be there to present the award.

11 FAMILY FISHING NIGHT/ITALIAN DINNER AT RIVERSIDE MARINA Our second event of the season here at Riverside Marina will be on November 26 th beginning at 3:00pm on the main dock in front of the Club House. One of our Dock Attendants, Matt Bartos, will be heading up a Family Fishing Derby for the younger crowd that might be in town for Thanksgiving. The Club will provide some fishing poles and life jackets, but you are welcome to bring your own. We will provide bait and assistance setting up fishing poles for the little ones. There is a prize for the biggest fish caught (and released)! For everyone who is tired of leftover turkey, after the Fishing Derby there will be an Italian Buffet featuring Pasta Stations and a variety of Italian favorites, including a kids’ corner by Chef Brad and his team. We encourage you to bring the family and come to the Riverside Marina for a fun afternoon and delicious dinner. Missy Milanese Duffy and Youssef Oualidi TOYS FOR TOTS DOCK STROLL This season we are planning some wonderful social events on the docks that all members are welcome to attend. The first marina event of the season will be a fundraiser for Toys for Tots and will take place on Saturday, November 19 th , beginning at 3:00pm. The first part of the event will be a “Dock Stroll” on A Dock from 3:00pm - 5:00pm, where members are encouraged to walk the docks and get to know some of the boat owners. The Burgee Bar will be open as well for drinks starting at 2:00pm. Some of the boats may be open for touring, and you will get to meet some of the crew members that take care of these beautiful yachts. Following the Dock Stroll, we will have a Prix-Fixe dinner open to all Club members and their guests, and we encourage boat owners to invite your Captain and crew as well. The dinner will be an outdoor Clam Bake featuring an Action Station of Steamed Clams and Surf and Turf by Chef Brad. 10% of the ticket price will be donated to Toys for Tots! Here at MIYC, we feel it is important to contribute to our community, and we hope you all will come help us get in the Holiday Spirit and raise some money for a wonderful program. Getting To Know You Chloe Vince Our new MIYC Receptionist
Chloe is a native of Naples, FL, and has lived there her entire life. She also is a graduate of our own Marco Island Academy! She is a single gal and has no children. Chloe has been working in the restaurant industry for three years. She feels that she works very well under pressure: “I never let stress get the best of me while working.”

When not at the Club, you can find Chloe spending time with her family, and her puppy, Tatum or fishing, and playing games on her PS4. The music she mostly listens to is from the early 2000’s; the R and B genre is a favorite. Uno is her favorite card game. As far as movies and TV, “I love everything that’s scary!” And a talent she would like to share with us: “I enjoy doing nails. I taught myself how to apply gel extensions, and to do intricate designs.” Since she has never traveled out of Florida, a trip to somewhere up north with snow and mountains would be very enticing. And, she has always wanted to go sky diving. “I’ve been too scared to do it yet, but one day I will face my fear.” In the next year, Chloe would love to be able to save up enough money with her partner to be able to buy a house. Her personal motto? “It’s very important to me that I live my life the way that I am happy. I try not to worry myself with the opinions of others.” M.A. Harlacker

I think it is fair to say that the month of October did not pan out the way we had planned! The late September visit of Hurricane Ian generated a lot of clean-up and some repair work that was not anticipated. However, we are now up and running, with only a couple of small items still on our 'to do' list! I know that many of you had your return dates changed because of the impact of Hurricane Ian. However, if you are in the area, I heartily suggest you visit the Club! We are bringing on new staff, we have new menus from Chef Brad, and the entire staff is looking forward to welcoming you back to the Club!

As you look through Anchorlines , you will get a good perspective of all the activities and events planned for the 2022/2023 season. Starting with the Welcome Back Party, the calendar is full. Look at the calendar and make your reservations now to attend events this Fall. And, of course, dining at the Club is better than ever. Chef Brad has really been working hard to develop interesting menus for every taste, while keeping a keen eye on the prices. Also, during November, we have our Annual Membership Meeting. We will be conducting our annual election of new Board members for the current term. We will share with you the financial results for this past year, other operational reports, and we have a presentation by the team working on the changes to the Clubhouse under consideration. We are all looking forward to a very exciting year. The member events calendar is full, the member cruises look fantastic, the food being prepared by our new Chef is awesome, and the special interest groups all have a season full of activities planned. Gentle Members, Welcome back to MIYC for an action-packed season of fun on and off the water! The excitement begins with our Extended Cruise to Key West starting on November 1. Boaters and land cruisers will enjoy five fun-filled days and enchanting nights in the Conch Republic, where the pace is easy, and everyone is on Island Time. Cruise Captains Pete and Peggy Frazier have cooked up an enticing schedule of activities, and Resident Foodie Jim Rich has booked mouth-watering dinners for all, but it’s OK to just lounge by the pool if you want.

Back at the Club, Boaters’ Night on Wednesday, November 9 features Collier County Commissioner Rick LoCastro who will speak and take your questions on all kinds of topics, from the impact of Hurricane Ian and efforts to rebuild, to channel markings, to boating issues, to his assessment of the direction of our community and county going into the next several years. You won’t want to miss this chance to see firsthand what’s going on in local government, and Chef Brad will be serving a great choice of food as well. On Friday, November 11, we honor and celebrate America’s Veterans, and Members who are Veterans in a very special Evening Colors Ceremony dedicated to Veterans. Please join us for this important event, our chance to say “thank you” for the service, dedication and inspiration we draw from our Veterans every day. Please join us in our salute beginning at 5:45pm. You can also stay for dinner afterword if you get your reservations in soon. Monday, November 14 brings us a very special Day Cruise: A Beachcomber Party on Keewaydin Island, complete with Lobster Rolls and other goodies provided by our very own Chef Brad and his team. Bring your own bottle, lawn chair or picnic blanket, hop in a boat and spend a lovely afternoon with all your friends on an idyllic tropic isle just minutes away from home but a world away in spirit… We wind up November with a Sunset Cruise on Wednesday, November 30. Members with boats invite other Members, boaters or non, aboard for a cruise out to the Gulf and back with the golden setting sun as a magical backdrop. Sunset Cruises are some of Members’ favorite events, and many a great friendship has begun over a shared glass of wine aboard a Sunset Cruise boat. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy these great times with fellow Members! So many great events, so many opportunities for fun…and that’s just November! What will December bring? The last two months of the year are jam-packed with events for everyone. Thanksgiving is always a special time at the Club so get your reservations in early. On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, there is a family fishing derby followed by a casual Italian Buffet. Young and old will have a chance to fish off the dock (your grandchildren will love this). We will also Deck the Halls of the Club until it sparkles with lights and trees in the holiday spirit. Volunteers are always needed and welcome. Keep an eye out for the Dock Stroll and a chance to make your contribution to Toys for Tots. There will also be a Clambake following the Dock Stroll. Twilight Golf resumes on November 10 th . We play nine holes at the Naples Links followed by dinner at the Club. This activity is open to Full and Equity Members. Don't be shy...we play best ball which takes the pressure off and it becomes a fun 'walk in the park'. The popular Book Club has expanded to include 10 books -- five non-fiction selections on the second Thursday of each month and five fiction choices on the last Thursday of the month. Watch for eblasts with more detail. The Member Holiday Party on December 2 nd will be a dinner and dance featuring very special cuisine. A piano and bass duo with two vocalists will sing seasonal songs as well as dance music. One of our Members will be joining in to make the evening extra special. This is just the tip of the iceberg for the holiday season. More to come in next month's Anchorlines . Angela Holt
Reservations Please! Please remember to make your reservations for dinner and events at the Club at least two days before the event. Chef Brad and his Staff like to be prepared in order to have the right amount of food and beverage. Also, when you make your reservation for a specific time, please be prepared to be shown to your table at that time. We appreciate your help as this also helps the kitchen Staff serve you in a timely manner.

Membership Updates We have been working to clear our waitlist for Full and Social Memberships, so you will see many fresh faces around the Club this Fall! Please help me to welcome the following new members! Violet Storer & Henryk Switala , Lisa & John Quetti, David & Lee Ann Lester , Cam & Nicole Jenkins, and Jason Brooke were all welcomed in October. I would like to add Sally Ledbetter (who is joining Kimberly Porter’s Membership) and new trial members Lindsey & John DeMeo (who are getting married at our Club) to the list of those new members who need to be welcomed! Community Support Speaking of Community Support, be sure to see the advertisement for the Love of Cats Gala , another organization we support. Jan & Jim Rich are members who created the Vicki Bretthauer organization. The fundraiser is Saturday, January 28 th and will be held at the Club. Check with Jan if you are interested in attending this casino event! We are still collecting for the Food Pantry in the lobby. Keep bringing in non-perishable items and we will make sure they get over to the Food Pantry. It would be great if you could bring a donation to the Food Pantry if you are coming to the Annual Meeting of the Membership on Thursday November 17 th . This year especially, those less fortunate need food due to Hurricane Ian and inflation. Let us help to make this a special Thanksgiving for our neighbors. Toys for Tots this year is going to be great! We will again be passing the boot at the Annual Meeting for Toys for Tots and, of course, you can send a check or drop toys off at the boxes that we will have in our lobby. But wait, there’s more! Dwyn Von Bereghy, Community Relations Chair, and I are thrilled that our new staff members Missy Duffy (Dockmaster), Youssef Qualidi (F&B Manager), and Chef Brad Reich along with some of our Marina Equity members have a special evening planned for us in support of Toys for Tots. On Saturday, November 19 th there will be a Dock Walk where some of our members will open up their boats for tours from 4p to 6p. We will then follow this Dock Tour with a Clambake on the patio in support of Toys for Tots! These employees along with some of our marina equity members came up with this idea and WE LOVE IT! We hope to have board members host the table frequently so all members can ask questions, or you can just make some new friends. Either sign up online or call the receptionist and say you would like to be seated at the Fla-mingle Table. If we get a lot of folks asking for the table we will set up two tables (one may be at a later time to spread out demand on the kitchen. We are all about service you know!) In the wake of Hurricane Ian, the Chief Human Resources Officer of YMCA of Southwest Florida was quoted as saying: “Out of devastation comes such humanity.” She was referring to the efforts of their staff and members in helping one another with the damage caused by the hurricane. The same can be said of our Club, which responded quickly and selflessly to the reports of hurricane damage to our hardworking staff's homes, cars, and personal property. As reported by our Chairman, members have donated more than $19,000 through Go Fund Me to help affected employees. The

Speaking of staff, we will soon be joined by several seasonal workers to supplement our year- round, full-time staff. We can now start putting their names with faces, named here along with their nation of origin: Fund drive ended on Oct. 30. General Manager Carrie, supported by our Human Resources Committee, will allocate funds based on employee needs. Again, thank you for your generous gifts to our staff-- “our most important asset.” Our employees are grateful for your support!

The Florida Council of Yacht Clubs is an organization made up of 37 yacht clubs located around the state from the panhandle to the Keys.
I have been appointed to be your new Florida Council of Yacht Clubs Director following the unexpected and untimely death of Ray Rosenburg. Ray was a respected and integral member of the FCYC, holding the position of Chairman for the Publications Committee. I have large shoes to fill! One of my goals in this assignment is to provide our Club with ongoing news and information about the FCYC and the member clubs, and to inform our Club about the issues discussed at our bi-monthly meetings. Let’s start with the creation of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs. History of the FCYC In August, 1960, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club invited representatives from the leading West Coast Yacht Clubs to a meeting to discuss forming a representative body to

encourage the sport of yachting and general club activities, to promote safety afloat, to encourage reciprocity between qualified yacht clubs, and to promote beneficial legislation. Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Secretary of State on July 26, 1961. The thirteen Charter Clubs in 1961 were: • Bird Key Yacht Club, Sarasota

FCYC Representation The (now) 37 member clubs in the Council represent a population of approximately 37,300 club members who have aided in bringing many legislative matters favorable to the boating public to a successful conclusion. To assist the Council in monitoring boating-related legislation, the Council retains a legislative representative in Tallahassee. The Council is an active member of water-oriented organizations such as the National Boating Federation. Close liaison is maintained with the U.S. Coast Guard in St. Petersburg, Tampa, Jacksonville, Miami, and the Corp of Engineers district office in Jacksonville. Our Member Clubs sponsor cruises on members’ boats to destinations along the East and Gulf Coasts of Florida and the Bahamas. The Council has also sponsored professionally organized, large ship cruises to unique locations in Europe, South America, through the Panama Canal, and many other destinations. Our next FCYC meeting is at the Halifax River Yacht Club, Daytona Beach, November 11-13. I will be reporting on the discussions in our December Anchorlines.

Also, jackets are required at Wine & Dine unless otherwise noted. Cell Phone Usage in the Clubhouse Dining Areas : Please limit your cell phone usage to texting and searching when in the dining areas of the Club. Conversations should take place under the Port Cochere. Membership Card : Your membership card is available via the app on your cell phone. Mariners Fund The Mariners Fund is a way to finance extraordinary MIYC needs; things outside of the normal budget; Club enhancements that will make the member experience better and up to date. For example, the Burgee Bar renovation was made possible entirely by member donations. The bar was expanded, new drop-down window covers were installed and attractive curtains and valances were added. The Mariners Fund also paid to upgrade the Club’s sound system and supported the installation of a new dimmer system to enhance lighting in the Harbour Room. All these improvements were made possible by the generous support of our members. A donation to the Mariners Fund is a symbol of MIYC member commitment. How Can I Donate? You can make a general donation or donate for a specific project. We have identified a number of needs and wishes, which are listed in a binder just below the recognition plaque in the lobby. If you’d like to donate, please download the Mariners Fund Donation Form, on which you can indicate the project you wish to support, the amount of donation and how you wish to pay (separate check, credit card or Club monthly statement.) If there is something special you would like to see happen and would like to financially support, please let any member of the Mariners Fund Committee know.
